XII Brazilian Symposium on Information and Computer System Security (SBSeg 2012) 19-22 November 2012 Curitiba, PR, Brazil http://sbseg2012.ppgia.pucpr.br/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for papers Computer Forensics Workshop (WFC) 22/11/2012 (Thursday) In 2012, as an innovation, the Brazilian Symposium on Information and Computer System Security (SBSeg) will host a satellite event called Computational Forensics Workshop (WFC). The event will bring together researchers, experts and academics from both the IT area as well as the area of Law. On one hand, Computer Science and Informatics bring the technique, methods and security required in all types of jobs, operations, research and related activities in Computer Forensics. On the other hand, the Law brings the legal aspects, legislation and the implications on the Brazilian Society arising from diverse wrongdoing and illegal activities. Computational Forensics deals with most relationships of onventional society going from the traditional forms to the digital form. Thus, traditional social problems break boundaries of the everyday real world and step into the digital world raising several new technical and legal problems. Problems such as privacy threatening, security breaches, hacking, libelous or defamatory e-mails, pornography, cyber bulling, illegal software, music and movies sharing, among other problems that have become part of our new reality. Computational Forensics refers to the science whose goal is to provide methods to promote the collection, preservation, validation, identification, analysis, interpretation, documentation and presentation of evidence derived from digital sources, with the purpose of facilitate or, in some cases, to reconstruct the aspects related to an event. In such cases, appropriate methodologies for the recovery and reproduction of facts must necessarily be studied and analyzed. On the other hand, the problems arising from the misuse of information and communication technologies require the proof of facts that may be brought into court for the appropriate attribution of responsibility. It is therefore paramount that technical and legal aspects are studied in order to produce good and high standard practices. In this context, the WFC will host speakers from various regions of Brazil, and also will feature panelists who specialize in Computational Forensics, as well as professionals working in Digital Rights, Information Technology, Security, and prosecutors, the judiciary, the Police and the Federal Institute of Criminology. Thus, Computational Forensics plays an important role and has been regarded as a fundamental part of technology-based investigation. In this context, the WFC and SBSeg Organizing Committee invites you to actively participate in this event by submitting articles on the topics listed below. We emphasize that topics not listed here may also be considered. Finally, we invite all interested parties to submit their contributions.
