The city of Curitiba is famous for being one of the most important and renowned Brazilian capitals. In 2007, according to the north american magazine Reader's Digest, Curitiba was the city with better quality of life in Brazil. It is the 8th most populous city in Brazil and the largest in the south of the country, with a population of 1,746,896 inhabitants. Today, the city is considered the capital with the best quality of life in Brazil, with a diversified industrial center that gives it the rank of fifth largest brazilian economy. Curitiba also has high levels of education, has the lowest illiteracy rate and best quality in basic education between the brazilian capitals. The city hosts several universities and research centers of international renown, such as UFPR, UTFPR, and PUCPR. There is also an active business park, modern and in synergy with research institutions.
